We all know it too well how long the morning routine can take to get our curls ready for the day. Depending on how long your hair is, waking up in the morning to do your hair can take as little as ten minutes to as much as an hour – and that’s not even considering washing and drying time! But there is a way to avoid doing your hair for an extended amount of time in the morning, and that’s by doing your hair the night before! We know that as little movement as possible to your hair while it is drying results in less frizz and more control. Sleeping without moving is not a reality, but there are options that will allow you to do your hair at night so you can sleep more in the morning!
IN THE EVENING:
Air Dry Your Hair as Much as Possible – Prepare your natural hair using your regular routine, but try to air-dry your hair as much as possible before going to bed. As long as your hair is dry on the surface, it will be safe to sleep on comfortably. Try to make sure that your hair is not damp when going to bed, as this can make you sick during colder months.
Secure your Hair – Securing your hair the night before ensures that your curls have the best curl formation when you wake up. For loose curls place all your hair on the top of your head and secure with our Roller Jaw Clamps. This will create a cleaner “S” formation and lead to better style in the morning. Another option is to try the pineapple method (piling your curls on top of your head) the night before to ensure that your curls stay undisturbed. This guarantees much less movement of your curls and allow them to dry properly and undisturbed while you sleep.
Use a Satin Pillowcase – Switch your cotton pillowcase for a satin one! The friction on cotton pillowcases tend to cause curls to snap and break while sleeping, which isn’t good if you’re trying to grow long and healthy curls. Satin pillowcases are much softer and easier on your curls, and don’t absorb any product when you sleep on one. If you can’t get find a satin pillowcase, try sleeping on a satin bonnet instead.
IN THE MORNING
If you wake up with frizz, no worries! – So you’ve followed all the above steps, and you’ve still woken up with frizzy hair. Do not panic. If you used Curl Keeper the night before to define your curls, it can be reactivated easily with water. Simply wet your hands and run them through the messy area and you can easily regain your curls without frizz. Then allow your hair to air dry or use a diffuser and bring back the bounce to your curls.
Use a holding product – To guarantee your curls are perfect and last all day or for several days, use a holding gel or cream to keep your curls in tip-top shape. A great holding product is Curl Keeper Tweek, which does the same thing as hairspray but comes in a cream form.
Going to sleep with your hair still wet does not have to be uncomfortable. If done properly, it can be just as effective as doing your hair as soon as you wake up. So if you’re looking for an extra few minutes of shut eye at night, try doing your hair the night before for fantastic results!
