Q& A with Curl Stylist Nezia

Curly hair stylist, Nezia Dias and I could have been twins with regards to a few of our personality traits. If I had to describe her I would say she can be quiet and laid back at the appropriate times and then out of far left field just overall crazy (in a good way) and downright hilarious! Nezia has been a curly hair stylist for 16 years and loves working with short curly hairstyles. It has been some time since Nezia and I got to gossiping so here is the scoop!

When did you realize being a stylist was what you wanted and why curls?
In all honesty, I knew being a stylist was for me when I was 5, no joke! Then it just sort of fell into my lap and I just loved it! It was especially great because I was able to learn how to be curly all the time and my relationship with my blow dryer and straightening my hair fizzled out.

What are a few important things that you’ve learnt about curly hair over the years?
In 16 years you learn a lot, and I have learned that really 90% of the world’s population has some sort of bend, wave or curl in their hair. I have also learned to see curly hair as much more fun and sexy!

What are some things you really reinforce to all of your clients?
Embrace what you have! Don’t give up on your curls and if you do – call me! Kiss your flat iron goodbye; you don’t need it when you can just call me!

What is your most memorable moment during your career as a stylist?
I have been doing wedding hair long before I was a stylist and still am as a stylist. For me, making a brides hair look outstandingly beautiful for her big day is so rewarding, who needs a curling iron!?

Name 3 of your Holy Grail products:
RevUp! Volumizing System, Curl Keeper and Gel

Steps on how to achieve your favorite hairstyle:
This isn’t as clear cut as the question may imply. Achieving a favourite curly hairstyle can take sometimes months in terms of growing it out to be able to do what you want too. On the reverse side, longer curls, cutting it off requires real planning as well. You have so many things to consider, like do you wear it curly and straight, manageability, face shape etc and sometimes it may even take 2 haircuts.

If you could change one thing about your curls, what would it be?
I would love to have tight curls! In fact, it wasn’t until I had my kids that I even HAD curly hair. Magically, after each kid they got bigger and curlier and now I want more!

If you could steal one curly haired celebrity’s hair, who’s would it be?
Melina Kanakarede, she plays a detective on C.S.I New York and I want her hair so much!
